Privacy Policy
RecipeLab has no account system, no server of its own, and no analytics. Nothing you put into it leaves your device unless you explicitly turn on iCloud Sync, and even then, only to your own private iCloud database.
The short version. Your recipes, variations, notes and photos are stored on your device. If you turn on iCloud Sync, your own data mirrors to your own private iCloud database, which the developer cannot read. RecipeLab collects no usage data, contains no advertising or tracking SDKs, and never sells or shares anything, because it never receives anything.
Who this covers
This policy covers the RecipeLab app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, including its widgets. It is written and maintained by the app's independent developer.
What RecipeLab stores, and where
The 47-recipe library ships inside the app itself as a read-only resource: it is never stored as user data and never syncs. Everything you create is stored locally on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud and turn Sync on, that user-generated content is mirrored to the private database of your personal iCloud account so it can sync between your devices.
- Bundled recipe library
- The 47 built-in recipes and camera database. Ships inside the app. Never stored as user data, never synced, never modified in place.
- Your variations, collections and notes
- Stored on device. Mirrored to your private iCloud database only if you turn on iCloud Sync in Settings, which is off by default.
- History and camera-slot assignments
- Same storage and sync behaviour as your variations, above.
- A reference photo you add for previews
- Stored as a local file on your device only. It is never a synced record and never leaves the device; every preview and full-resolution export is rendered entirely on-device.
- Preferences
- Your name, selected cameras, appearance and sync preference are stored locally on the device.
- Search index
- RecipeLab adds your recipes and variations to Spotlight so you can find them from the system search field. This index is local to your device and is not transmitted anywhere.
Data held in your private iCloud database is governed by Apple's privacy policy and your iCloud account settings. The developer cannot read it, and receives no copy of it.
When RecipeLab connects to the internet
There is exactly one case, and it's off unless you switch it on yourself.
iCloud Sync (optional, off by default)
Turning on iCloud Sync in Settings uploads your variations, collections, notes, camera-slot assignments and history to your own private iCloud database, so they sync across your signed-in devices. Turning it off stops new changes from syncing; it does not delete what's already in iCloud.
Recipe generation is on-device, not a network feature. Vibe Builder generates recipes from a mood description using Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework. On a capable device with Apple Intelligence enabled, this makes no network request at all: your prompt, your camera selection and the generated recipe never leave the device. There is currently no cloud-based generation option in the app.
What RecipeLab never does
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage tracking of any kind.
- No advertising, and no advertising or attribution SDKs.
- No RecipeLab account, so no email address, password or profile is ever collected.
- No selling, renting or sharing of personal data: none is received to share.
- No location collection.
- No third-party analytics or tracking libraries are bundled in the app.
- Camera capture and photo export are processed entirely on-device; a photo you use for a preview is never uploaded anywhere, at any resolution.
Children
RecipeLab is not directed at children and knowingly collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Your control over your data
Because the data is yours and sits in your own storage, you control it directly:
- Export: your variations can be exported locally, in plain or encrypted form, from Settings.
- Delete: Settings has a "Delete All My Data" action for everything you've created. Deleting the app removes its local data; iCloud data can be removed from your iCloud account settings.
- Stop syncing: turn iCloud Sync off in Settings and new changes stay local.
There is no request to make of the developer to exercise these, because there is no copy of your data to request.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a future update adds any optional feature that sends data off the device (a cloud fallback for recipe generation is on the roadmap, not yet built), this policy will be updated first to disclose exactly what that feature sends and when, and it will require the same explicit opt-in every other network feature in this app does.
